Episode 2 Attack of the Clippers

A long time ago (a really long time ago), I bought my first album. Yes, I said album. It was large, black vinyl disc by the band Kiss. Who is Kiss? Who is Kiss? Oh, let me educate you.

Who stole my pajamas?
This was also in the time before iTunes and the world of music was ruled by the all powerful Columbia House Music Club. look it up. Why do I bring up such an archaic band. The base player for the band (the pretty one on the far right) was a man named Gene Simmons. He had a habit of sticking out his tongue and dressing in leather with bat like wings under his arms. He is a very ugly man, rich, but butt ugly.

Which brings me to this weeks topic . . . the Legion of Everblight Succubus.

My first Privateer Press army was the Legion of Everblight (MKI) . I'm a sucker for dragons and elf chicks. I sold off most of my army after MKII came out and started up Warmachine with The Retribution of Scyrah. I have always had a small Legion for, 35 points of Lylyth1 fun. I figured it was about time to add in a second Warlock and flesh it out with some fun models.

In MKI, my go to girl was Rhyas. She was a fickle elf, she either got the charge, hit, and got the critical decapitation or she died. She could also get up to defense 21 with Invisibility and Tenacity. MKII Rhyas is no MKI Rhyas, but she still holds a place in my heart. With that in mind, I decided to build a fun list for her. One thing that Rhyas lacks is a large Fury stat. This is where the Succubus comes in, however, I'll be damned if I have this butt ugly model, that looks like an old washed-up rock star, in my army.

This is what a succubus should look like!!!

I needed to start somewhere and as luck would have it I had some old metal GM Woodelf Spellsingers lying around.

I decided to go with the Spellsinger on the left, mostly because of the way her body is arched. It would flow better with the serpentine body of the original. "But she's wearing flowing robes . . ." blah, blah, blah. Just go with me here. Once I had the legs picked out it was time to bust out the clippers.

First up, the Succubus herself. I wanted to make sure I didn't harm the parts of the model I wanted to keep so I used my big snips to cut separate her well below the navel.

Did I mention I'm a liar?

This won't hurt a bit . .

Once I had her top half separated from her bottom half I used some files and my hobby knife to smooth out the bottom edge. Then there was the matter of clipping the Spellsinger into pieces. I forgot to take a before and after pick of this. Needless to say, it didn't go well for her. At this point I'm feeling a little like Dr. Frankenstein. Apply some hobby knife, filing, drilling, and pinning and the two halves are safely joined together. This solves one problem, but it still leaves my succubus with a face only Gene Simmons' mother could love. I tried to safely remove the head from the Spellsinger, but that didn't work out so well. I then looked for a suitable head and found one in a different GW model. Oh, such a pretty head.

Can I sing you a song?

The clippers are getting a workout today. Time to clip Gene Simmons' sister's head off and replace it with her new pretty, plastic one. All in all, the pieces joined together with very little difficulty.

Look Ma, I'm floating?
What I didn't take into consideration when I chose this head was how its positioning would affect her wings. After a little dry fitting and examination I had to shave off some of her locks. Which was really simple because her head is made out of plastic.

I'm pretty no matter which side you look at

I don't want to insult anybody's intelligence, but did you notice that a succubus shouldn't have four arms. There are plenty of four-armed demons throughout fantasy fiction. Non of them happen to be pretty and they tend to want to eat you instead of playing fun games with you. So with that in mind we look at her four upper appendages.

Don't get grabby
What I want to do is give her the I'm going for you look. So I have to use the pointing finger hand. Add to that the act of spellcasting and I chose the right arm with that is bent at the elbow. I think it will give her the, I'm about to hurl flaming death at you look I want.

Now to attach them. The right arm went on easily enough in the top-most slop for her right arms. I didn't like the way the left arm looked in the top slot and it would look extremely silly in the bottom slot. So it was time to drill a hole between the two positions and fiddle with it until I had them positioned correctly.

Construction complete . . . next week I'll talk about the green stuff and getting the lower half to blend in with the upper half. I might even have some paint on the model.

Next week Episode 3 Revenge of the Nyss
